No, I do not recommend this property.
I turned up on the date of my booking to be greeted by an aggressive bouncer refusing me entry to the hotel. He told me there was a private party and my booking was cancelled. I asked to see a manager as I knew nothing about this but he blocked my entrance into the hotel. I wonder what sort of private party they were having? A lady turned up and told me I was booked in another Sheffield hotel, when I questioned her as to why I was not notified she simply said that maybe they do not have my contact details and they were well within their rights to cancel any booking. Really? Without notice? I assured her as a Diamond member they had my details. An aggressive bouncer and a could not care less manager convinced me never to book this HIE again. In the end I found my way to the other hotel where indeed I had a booking. But it was unneeded stress that was easily solved by an email or phone call.

Firstly I would like to apologise for your experience when you arrived for your booking. It is true that the express is closed however rather than inconvenience guests by having them look for alternative accommodation we transferred all our bookings to our sister hotel Crowne Plaza as it is right next door.
I have looked into the issues you experienced and the security guard you spoke to is no longer working here so I couldn't speak to him. Your contact details which are on the booking the telephone does not ring it just gives a dead line and there was no email address attached so there was no way for my reservations team to contact you. The booking that was cancelled was not done by the hotel it was done via your rewards account but my reservations did reinstate it before you arrived.
We have not had any problems for any of the bookings we moved as it is an upgrade to a Crowne Plaza for the price of an express and from what I have heard you enjoyed your stay when you arrived there.
Once again I apologise for the way it was handled when you arrived and I can assure you that wont happen again and I would recommend that you look at your contact details that are on your file as we couldn't get hold of you. I also want to make you aware that we don't get access to your full member profile so it only pulls through one contact number and an email address if you have it ticked that they can provide that.
I hope you come back to stay with us again in the future and I look forward to welcoming you to the Holiday Inn Express when we do reopen.

Yes, I recommend this property.
In this hotel the toilet seat lids do not stay up and causes difficulty as a male to stand and use it.
There was dried urine stains on the front of the seat probably due to the lid not staying up an the previous guest being a careless sod. Hotel cleaners didn't clean it so I had to on arrival.
This is a common problem in this hotel as I have stayed in various rooms before.
Get the toilet seats sorted.

Yes, I recommend this property.
The hotel has a perfect location, accompanied by a generous outdoor parking perfect for any type of car.
Very friendly staff, who allowed me an early check in at no extra cost.
Generous rooms and bathrooms with spacious showers.
Disappointing breakfast, the worst coffee and tea.
I would spend the night here but I would consider two aspects, I would come with my pillows and I would not consider having breakfast here.

Yes, I recommend this property.
We stopped in 2 rooms interconnected with 2 adults and 4 children for 2 nights. The rooms were a good size and clean with everything we needed. We had a meal in the restaurant on the 2nd night which was excellent and we would go again just for this. The service for our entire stay was brilliant we honestly couldn't have expected better. We will definitely stay here again.

The big concern was people not wearing masks. In fairness, most were but it should have been everyone. There were also cleanliness issues with the room. I am sure that this was a one off but it has left a bad impression and we are giving simple, honest feedback. The hotel might make contact and explain their reasons, which will be noted.

We stayed for 5 nights. The room was clean and comfortable. The food was disappointing. Items were missing from breakfast bag and evening meals were expensive and not nice. The chips were underdone and the fish had a raw/grey coloured bit in the middle. The mushy peas were dry. We were offered more chips but the fish put us off completely.
